CHEERIO STAFF 2017

Caroline FountainWe welcome Caroline Fountain to our staff this summer. Caroline was a camper at Cheerio for 6 years and this will be her first summer as a staff person, as a Senior Counselor during Girls Camp. Caroline is from Raleigh NC, attends UNC Chapel Hill, and is majoring in Exercise and Sports Science, with plans to apply to Physical Therapy School. Caroline's fun fact about herself is that her Grandmother lived to be 103. She loves Trail Mix, Pizza, and Cheerio Fried Chicken.

Annabelle CorchianiAfter being at Camp Cheerio for 10 years, Annabelle Corchiani is joining our staff this summer as a Junior Counselor for Coed Camp. Annabelle is from Raleigh NC, but lived in Spain for 2 years and is somewhat fluent in Spanish. She is very excited to spend her summer being around children, setting a good example for them, and providing a memorable experience for her campers. In Annabelle's free time, she loves to work out, listen to music, and hang out with friends.

Roy ClinardRoy Clinard is from High Point NC, will begin his time at UNC Chapel Hill in the fall, and is going to return as a Junior Counselor for a second summer this year. Roy's favorite food and camp food is muffins. When asked what brings you joy...Roy replied, "Bringing others joy, making people laugh, sunshine, music, Earl Grey tea, black coffee before evening program, muffin-breakfast day, Martyn and Hobart, teaching/learning (especially from children), sleeping, trigonometry, and tie-die shirts." I think that sums it up for Roy!

Merri Baird GravelyWe are excited to have Merri Baird Gravely returning again this summer as a Junior Counselor. Merri Baird is from Greensboro NC and plans to attend Wofford College in the fall. An interesting fact about her is that she is 1 of 8 children...no wonder she loves living in a cabin full of kids. Cheerio is Merri Baird's favorite place and she loves giving campers the same wonderful experience she had as a camper.

MorganYarboroughMorgan Yarborough will be joining as a Junior Counselor for Girls Camp this summer. Morgan likes to be active and spend time with friends and family. She loves finding spontaneous activities to do, such as roller skating, hiking, or bowling. Morgan is from Charlotte NC and plans to attend Denison University in the fall, where she will be playing on the Lacrosse Team. Morgan can't wait to be back on the mountaintop because it feels like home.

Polly SommersPolly Sommers will be joining the Cheerio staff as a Junior Counselor this summer. Polly's personal motto is The Four Agreements: Speak Impeccably, Don't take anything personally, don't make assumptions, and always do your best. Polly loves smoothies and her favorite camp food is the Chocolate Mousse. During her free time, Polly enjoys dancing, listening to music with her friends, taking bubble baths, and relaxing by the river.

Gabi LooneyGabi Looney is returning to Cheerio for a second summer as part of our Climbing Staff. Her favorite snack is peanut butter filled pretzels and she enjoys spending time outside and reading. Gabi attends UNC Greensboro and is currently studying Business Administration, with the hopes of one day working for an Anti-Human Trafficking Organization. Gabi is known to be one of the happiest, friendliest, and optimistic staff at Cheerio. She loves working with children because it makes her feel like she is a kid again.

Madison PleasantsMadison Pleasants, also known as Maddy, is from Siler City and attends UNC Chapel Hill. This summer will be Madison's 12th and she will serve as one of our CIT Directors. When asked what brings Madison joy, she answered, "When people are appreciative of those around them, I find the most joy! I also really like laughter, ice cream, Disney movies, and smiles"! We are privileged to have Madison coming back again this summer to our staff.

Anne VinesAnne Vines has been associated with Camp Cheerio for 24 years. Although the past few summers she has only had a few weeks to volunteer, this summer she is joining us for the full summer as our Cabin Life Director. Anne brings smiles and laughter to all around and she is excited for her time to develop relationships with both the staff and campers. Originally from NC, Anne now lives in Trussville, AL. Anne spends her free time playing tennis and hanging with friends.

Sydney TompkinsWhen Sydney Tompkins was asked why she wanted to return to Cheerio for her 10th summer, she responded, "I love Camp Cheerio with all of my heart and soul. It is the place that I found my relationship with God, and I look forward for opportunities to be the hands and feet of the Lord at camp every summer". Sydney is from Wilmington NC and attends Liberty University. She will be a Senior Counselor during Coed Camp.

Abbie TrollingerAbbie Trollinger will be joining us this summer for Girls Camp as a Junior Counselor. Abbie loves Chicken Pot Pie, but her favorite camp food is Chicken Patties. A fun fact about Abbie is that while in Greece last summer, she ate grilled octopus and swam in the Aegean Sea below an ancient temple. Her personal motto is, "Work hard, be kind to others, and smile often." Abbie says that she learned so much about friendship and being herself at camp, and she wants to be able to help campers learn those same lessons.

Alexandra StillAlexandra Still, known to most as Lexie, will be joining us as a Senior Counselor this summer. Lexie is from Rutherfordton NC and attends Wake Forest University where she is currently studying Elementary Education. Her favorite food is any meal with banana pudding and loves fruit cups, goldfish, and granola bars as a snack. Lexie was a camper at Camp Cheerio, but this will be her first as staff. She went on a college orientation retreat to Cheerio and decided she would love to spend another summer on the mountaintop.

Jane OldhamOne of our Head Counselors for this summer is Jane Oldham. This will be Jane's 9th summer at Cheerio, both as a camper and counselor. Jane is very excited to return in this role to help other counselors. It brings her joy to help others, especially kids because children have pure joy and kindness for all things. Jane is from Raleigh NC and attends Appalachian State University. She is studying Human Services Psychology, and hopes to one-day work with children in hospitals. If you want to find a way to Jane's heart, bring her pizza...it's her favorite food and snack!

Emory McGlaughlinEmory McGlaughlin, known as Emmie, will be serving for a second summer as a Junior Counselor. Emmie is from High Point NC and will be attending Western Carolina in the fall. She is very excited to return to Cheerio to see her returning campers, meet new campers, and have some awesome dance parties at Store. Emmie loves listening to children talk about their day, and knowing that the week or two weeks at camp can be the best part of their year brings her so much joy.

Gracie BrownGracie Brown will be a Junior Counselor this summer during Girls Camp. Gracie is from Raleigh NC finds joy through puppies, kids, humor, friends and family. Her favorite camp meal is Mac and Cheese with Corn Dogs. Cheerio is a very special place to Gracie and she feels it is important to be encouraging to young girls, especially because they generally face a lot of pressures and insecurities growing up. She is so excited to meet her new campers this summer.

Katie BynumKatie Bynum is from Raleigh NC and this will be her 8th summer at Cheerio. She will be a Junior Counselor and is excited to be on staff. Katie loves chocolate covered strawberries and her favorite snack is oreos. For her free time, Katie enjoys spending time with her friends, relaxing outside, and playing soccer. Eventually Katie plans to pursue studies in medicine or engineering. A fun fact about Katie is that she has a sister, 12 years younger, who was born on the exact same date as Katie.

Katie JarrettKatie Jarrett is from Kingstree SC, attends Wofford University, and is returning as a second year Senior Counselor this summer. When asked why she is looking forward to being at Cheerio again this summer, she replied, "I love Camp Cheerio! Last summer was one of the best summers of my life. I grew as a person, made lifelong friendships, and so many memories. I couldn't imagine not returning back to camp this summer". Katie is studying Finance at Wofford and in her free time she enjoys being with family and friends, reading, and laughing.

Morgan SmetMorgan Smet will be joining our staff this summer as our Aquatics Director. This will be Morgan's 13th summer at Camp Cheerio. Morgan is from Albemarle, NC and attends the University of Virginia. Recently Morgan purchased a hackysac and is planning on perfecting the art of Footbag this summer. Her favorite camp meal is corn dogs with mac and cheese. Morgan loves feeding off of the energy and enthusiasm of her campers and is looking forward to being a role model for so many again this summer.

Madeleine PiburnMadeleine Piburn is joining us for her first summer at Camp Cheerio all the way from Champlin, MN. She attends the University of Stevens Point in Wisconsin and will be on our Aquatic Staff this summer. She is excited about living in a new part of the country for a few weeks and feels like Camp Cheerio is going to be a wonderful place to start. Most people call her Maddy, which she does prefer. Currently she is majoring in Elementary Education with a minor in Health Education and Psychology and is also training for a marathon!

Leslie RitchWe welcome back Leslie Ritch for a second year as a Senior Counselor this summer. Leslie is from Granite Falls NC and currently attends Liberty University. She is studying psychology with the hopes of becoming a professional counselor one day. Leslie is so excited to see her returning campers this summer and is looking forward to having new ones as well. Cookies or crackers are Leslie's favorite snack and she enjoys spending time with her friends during her free time.
