Drama

Lights! Camera! Action! In our drama class, campers learn acting techniques, voice projection and what it takes to be a star! At the end of each session, campers put on a full-scale performance on Cheerio's stage for the entire camp. This is a highlight for both campers and counselors.

Arts and Crafts

Our arts and crafts program is designed to help campers express their creativity and let their artistic ability shine. Many of the crafts we choose are made with materials found right around camp. Recent projects include: bead making, paper making, basket weaving, tie-dying and woodworking.

Newspaper

Love to write and investigate? Newspaper is for you. Here campers learn the fundamentals of writing "inverted pyramid style". Columns, comic strips, and an occasional camp gossip column are submitted and published in the "Cheerio Chat," our camp newspaper. Newspaper classes have been known to take an exciting field trip to the offices of the "Alleghany News" located in nearby Sparta, NC.

Dance

Feel the rhythm! Dance class has been a favorite since camp began. Today, counselors teach a variety of dance styles including: modern, shag, and line dancing. Campers have fun learning dance routines, and improve their rhythm and coordination along the way.

Rocketry

5-4-3-2-1…BLAST OFF! In this class, campers learn to make model rockets from scratch - then launch them toward space. Instructors teach aerodynamics, model design and the fundamentals of physics during this activity, and on the last day of camp, Cheerio's two launch pads are busy!
