Cabins

Cheerio is a community in every sense of the word. Our cabin groups, named after Native American tribes, are at the center of camp life. Campers spend much time getting to know each cabin mate personally.

Our cabin facilities are modern, each with its own private bathroom. All bunk beds are equipped with proper-fitting guard rails, and extra storage space is given to each camper for personal belongings.

Food

At Cheerio, we view food service as a crucial component in our camping program. Our goal is to provide nutritious, satisfying meals in a clean, inviting environment. Camp Cheerio consistently maintains a Grade-A sanitary rating by the North Carolina State Board of Health. Food is served family-style and cabins are seated together. Mealtimes also provide the opportunity for fellowship and singing, one of Cheerio's many traditions. All meals are reviewed by a registered dietician, with fresh fruit and ice water available daily between meals.

Health

Cheerio takes its responsibility to provide all campers with a healthy camping experience solemnly. Not only does Cheerio maintain a well-equipped infirmary with qualified medical personnel on site 24 hours a day, but our counselors are thoroughly trained to properly handle emergency situations. We require a physical to be completed within 24 months for every child entering camp. We also have arrangements with Alleghany Family Practice and local hospitals to meet any needs which may arise.

Safety

Safety is of utmost importance at Cheerio. It is our first priority in every activity, at every meal and on every trip. Because camp is based on a daily schedule program, we know where every camper should be at every moment. We take our role as caregiver very seriously. Parents can rest assured their child is being well cared for and in good hands.
