Standard
This is our basic course. This session is divided into three mini-programs:
backpacking/rock climbing, canoeing/rafting/caving, and mountain biking. During
each of these four day mini-trips, the group will pedal, hike or paddle to their
campsite where they set up camp for the night. During backpacking/rock climbing
and canoeing, participants carry all necessary gear with them the entire time.
During the biking session, participants carry only what is needed during the
day; the remainder of their gear is shuttled by van from campsite to campsite.
Between each mini-program, the participants return to the New
River Outdoor Center (NROC) to rest, play games, pack and prepare for the
next segment. 2002 Dates and rates

PERSONALIZED GROUP PROGRAMS
We offer pre-arranged groups the ability to participate in our activities as a part of their program or we can help develop a program for them. Activities include backpacking, rafting, canoeing, rock climbing, mountain biking, rappelling, high ropes, low ropes and caving. These programs can be based out of our New River Outdoor Center (NROC) in Virginia from March through November, with day programs all year or the programs can be based out of our Resident Camp (Camp Cheerio) and Conference facility in Roaring Gap, North Carolina in the Spring and Fall. These options have been valuable to groups such as churches, businesses, schools and special interest groups.
Adventure Programming
This program is designed for groups that would like to utilize the facilities
of either the Camp Cheerio/Conference Center or New River Outdoor Center location
as a base camp for day programs. This option allows groups to plan evening activities
and/or meetings to fit their agenda. It also allows conference groups to plan
for an activity during their regular schedule of meetings. Activities are available
as a full or half day outing. The chosen activities will be arranged to best
work with your schedule, number of participants and time available.
Wilderness Programming
From the activities offered a group can create a wilderness experience that fits their needs and desires. Groups may choose a program that requires a total group effort or one that challenges the individuals.
The programs can vary from one day to several weeks depending on the goals and the activities chosen. Groups can be housed at the New River Outdoor Center (NROC) or out on the trail. We work with the teachers, parents or youth leaders of each group to develop a schedule that best suits the needs of the group so that the best possible program can be developed.
