
Trip Leaders
Applicants should be 20 years and older or a rising sophomore in college for
this wilderness tripping program featuring backpacking, canoeing, mountain biking,
rock climbing, rafting and caving. Experience in one or more of these areas
is required. These are eight week positions beginning June 9 and ending August
3. Staff training begins in mid May. Responsibilities alternate from leading
adventure programs for youth to in-camp duties. While
in the field, this position requires staff to work together in a coed atmosphere
with their group. The programs can range from 3 days to 2 weeks in length.
Transportation Coordinator
Applicants should be 21 years or older. This position requires a good driving record, being a self-starter, organizational skills and the ability to adapt to changes quickly. Responsibilities are scheduling transportation, providing transportation to and from sites, assisting in organizing the packing of all group food, supporting groups at activity sites and taking the place of a staff member, if required.
Food Coordinator
Applicants should be 21 years or older. This position requires a good driving record, self-starter, organizational skills and the ability to adapt to changes quickly. Responsibilities are organizing the packing of all group food, placing food orders, supervision of food storage, assisting in providing transportation to and from sites, supporting groups at activity sites and taking the place of another staff member if required.
Skills Coordinators
Applicants should be 21 years or older. This position requires a good driving record, self-starter, organizational skills, ability to adapt to change, and ability to work with others. Must have skills in some
of the following areas: backpacking, canoeing, caving, mountain biking. Working under the Director, Assistant Director and Program Director, his/her responsibilities are supervising staff, supervising activity sites, checking in and out of gear, maintenance of gear, providing transportation, helping with various in-camp duties and organizing/supervising programs.
Trip Guides
Applicants should be 21 years or older. This position requires a good driving
record, self-starter, organizational skills, ability to adapt to change, and
the ability to work solo and with others. Must have skills in some of the following
areas: backpacking, caving, canoeing, rafting, rock climbing and rafting. Working
under the Director, Assistant Director and Program Director, his/her responsibilities
are organizing/running personalized group
programs and helping with various in-camp duties.
Outdoor/Adventure Education Instructors
Cheerio also hires Outdoor/Adventure Education Instructors for its fall and
spring programs. These positions are for qualified college students or graduates.
Spring employment runs from mid-March through late May. Fall employment runs
from early September through mid-November. Staff will work with various types
of youth, leading school groups on hikes, canoe trips, high and low ropes courses,
general games sessions, and other activities. You will also have the opportunity
to work with conference groups on weekends.
Pay varies by position and experience. Trip leaders and trip guides begin at $185.00 per week as a base salary. Salary for Coordinator positions are based on the credentials brought to the job. Outdoor/Adventure Education Instructors are paid $185.00 per 5-day work week.
All of the above positions include room and board, as well as laundry. Summer positions also qualify for medical insurance coverage.
