Summer Programs

Adventures Unlimited (14 days) Ages 14-17
This trip was developed by several of our participants that wanted a different twist on the Mountains to Sea by some activities and/or different locales. This program takes place in the mountains and on the coast of NC. The participants on this program spend a week in the mountains of NC mountain biking, rock climbing, caving, canoeing/kayaking and rafting. Then they spend a week at the coast of NC sailing, surfing, sea kayaking, visiting local sights and playing on the beach. 2009 Dates and Rates

Parent/Child Backpacking and Climbing (3 days) Ages 10-16
This trip takes place in the beautiful Mount Rogers National Recreation Area. The Mount Rogers area boasts many fascinating and exciting things to see and do from wild ponies, extensive vistas, trout streams, exciting rock climbing and canopied backpacking trails.

Participants on this trip will spend three days and two nights enjoying and relaxing in the out of doors. What better way to for a parent to bond with their child.

The trip will start on a Friday where all the participants will be outfitted with backpacks, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, tents as well as other group necessities. By mid afternoon the group will be on the trail backpacking into the high country. On Saturday the group will wake to cook a delicious breakfast and then walk over to the climb site. Participants will spend the day climbing and rappelling on the craggy rocks of Rhododendron Gap. The view will take up a great deal of film! The group will also do a day hike up to the highest peak in Virginia (Mount Rogers) and see what they can find. Sunday after breakfast, the group will make their way out of the forest to be picked up and return to the base camp. Great times, great memories and friends newly made! 2009 Dates and Rates

Parent/Child Canoe and Cave (3 days) Ages 10-16
This trip takes place in the beautiful New River Valley area near Mount Rogers National Recreation Area in the South West part of Virginia. The New River area boasts many fascinating and exciting things to see and do from deer, extensive vistas, trout streams, exciting rapids and spectacular formations inside the caves.

Participants on this trip will spend three days and two nights enjoying and relaxing in the out of doors. What better way to for a parent to bond with their child.

The trip will start on a Friday where all the participants will check in at our outpost the New River Outdoor Center (NROC) and move into their platform tents shared by the group. Once everyone has arrived the group will have some fun and games to get to know one another and more about there own parent(s) or child. The group will also get a run down on the schedule and how everything will work then check out any needed gear such as sleeping bags, sleeping pads, canoe & cave gear as well as other group necessities. On Saturday the group will wake to cook a delicious breakfast and then head out to the caves. Participants will spend the day caving in the subterranean world. The formations and wonder of the caves will take up a great deal of film! Sunday after breakfast, the group will gear up with there canoes and spend half a day on the New River (noted to be the second oldest river in the world) having a great time watching the wildlife, swimming, running the rapids, making memories and friends! 2009 Dates and Rates

Parent/Child Canoe Trekking NEW for 2009 (3 days) Ages 12-16
This trip takes place in the beautiful New River Valley in Northwestern North Carolina and Southwestern Virginia on the New River (noted to be the second oldest river in the world). The New River area boasts many fascinating and exciting things to see and do from deer, extensive vistas, trout streams, exciting rapids and spectacular views.

Participants on this trip will spend three days and two nights enjoying and relaxing in the out of doors. What better way to for a parent to bond with their child?

The trip will start on a Friday where all the participants will check in at our outpost the New River Outdoor Center (NROC). Then the group will head out to the starting point on the river and begin the trek down river. Each night the group will camp out at one of the New River State Park sites or our own NROC. During each day everyone will get to learn more about paddling and more importantly have a lot of fun. The river is an easy flowing work of nature with plenty of wildlife. Sunday after breakfast, the group will gear up with there canoes and spend half a day on river  having a great time watching the wild life, swimming, running the rapids, making memories and friends!

Sampler (7 days) Ages 10-12
campers and staff horsing aroundSamplers are an introductory programs for 10-12 year olds. As the name implies, the youth get to sample five different adventure activities. Participants enjoy backpacking, canoeing/kayaking, whitewater rafting, rock climbing and caving. 2009 Dates and Rates

Thank you so much for making Adam's first camp experience so rewarding. He has definitely had a positive experience which will help him in all his future forays away from home.

New River Adventure (14 days) Ages 12-14
smiling campers This is a basic two week course divided into three mini-programs: backpacking/rock climbing, canoeing/kayaking/rafting/caving, and mountain biking. During each of these four day mini-trips, the group will pedal, hike or paddle to their campsite where they set up camp for the night. Between each mini-program, the participants return to the New River Outdoor Center (NROC) to rest, play games, pack and prepare for the next segment. 2009 Dates and Rates

Wanted to thank (the staff) for undertaking and carrying out such a fabulous trip. Lexie and Sabrina arrived home exhilarated and full of stories about their adventure. They absolutely loved it and hearing them rehash the experience with such enthusiasm is especially nice for us parents. Amazing how well they got to know everyone in such a short period of time.

Rock Climbing/Rafting (7 days) Ages 13-15
Rock climbing is AWESOME! Thrills and challenges abound in this one week program. For two days these participants will climb in the New River Gorge reaching heights that many only dream about. The other three days they will raft down the New River Gorge and the Gauley River for excitement on Class III - V rapids and a chance to look upon the sheer cliffs that they will be climbing. 2009 Dates and Rates

I wanted to thank you for another wonderful year for my daughter. I am so thankful for all the great times you have given her (she said it was her best year ever) and over the past four years. It has been a very important part of her life. The lessons you teach - self-reliance, cooperation, independence/dependence, friendship, etc. - will enable her to better make it through the tough times that come to us all and to enjoy the good times to the fullest.

Cave/Raft (7 days) Ages 13-15
cave camping This program puts dirt and water together to create muddy fun. Campers will walk, scramble, crawl and inch their way through several caves in VA and TN. Rafting will be on the New River Gorge in West Virginia and the Nolichucky River in Tennessee. Campers will help navigate a raft through Class III - V rapids while enjoying the magnificence of the gorges. 2009 Dates and Rates

Kayak, Climb and Cave (7 days) Ages 11-13
For those who look for the wilder things in life, this program offers an abundance of thrills. Campers will kayak for two days on the New River in Class II rapids then spend two days climbing the cliffs of Table Rock and Linville Gorge and spend a day of caving in a large nature cave hosting a variety of formations, creek and cave life. This trip will travel between the states of Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee. 2009 Dates and Rates

Seekers (14 days) Ages 13-15
Biking the Virginia Creeper Trail Seekers is an intermediate level program that offering a greater challenge. The group stays out in the field for longer periods, climbs more challenging routes, paddles for several days on rivers, crawls through wild caves and takes on more responsibility for the welfare of the group. The program will be spent backpacking, rock climbing, canoeing, kayaking, rafting, caving and mountain biking in the mountains of North Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, and West Virginia. 2009 Dates and Rates

I'd like to thank you, once again, for a totally awesome summer! I know I've thanked you a million times, but it's the truth. The Cheerio Adventures program is one-of-a-kind and can be topped by no other. Thanks for another memorable summer, and I cannot wait to return next year!

Mountains to Sea (14 days) Ages 14-17
For campers who want both, this program takes place in the mountains and on the coast of NC. Campers spend a week in the mountains of NC backpacking, rock climbing, caving, canoeing and rafting; followed by a week at the coast of NC sailing, surfing, sea kayaking, playing on the beach and wind surfing. 2009 Dates and Rates
